___________________________________________________  The BARRE CLASSES at Studio Indigo
#108 Sea Grove Main Street (on the Island in Sea Grove Town Center)
Developed from the classical ballet barre, infused with Pilates, and pumped up with a little extra strengthening stuff, my barre classes are unlike anything you have ever experienced.

Barre Fit ADAGIO
Tuesday 6:00 pm

This class takes its inspiration from the slow and controlled movement of the ballet adagio.  We will begin with Pilates mat exercises, progress into floor barre exercises, and then come to standing at the barre. After a strong workout demonstrating control, balance, stretch, and strength, we will round out the hour with a relaxing cool-down.  Bring a mat and dress in clothes that are easy to move in (yoga, ballet, or Pilates attire - bare feet)

ADAGIO class is designed to engage the larger muscle groups of the body through large, but slower movements.  Balance and strength are definitely challenged in this class.

Barre Fit ALLEGRO
Thursday 6:00 pm

Barre Fit Allegro class takes its cue from the quicker movements of the ballet.  Train your body through a modified variation of the more energetic movements of ballet.  We will begin with a mat Pilates warm-up, and then move to the barre for an incredible ballet work-out that challenges your legs, derriere, and core! Afterward, we will come to the floor for more Pilates, arm-work, and a relaxing cool-down.

ALLEGRO This workout challenges both the intrinsic and the large muscle groups of the legs and trunk. Staccato movement

What is Pilates?

"Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement" (about.com).
Pilates has been used for years in the dance community as a tool to enhance core strength and flexibility, while also building and maintaining long lean muscels. Any BODY can do Pilates, and everybody should.
Once you have the core awareness, flexibility and balance that Pilates brings, you will notice how your daily movement and health are improved. Pair it with the workout you are already doing and see how much better it gets!

Check out this amazing old video of Joseph Pilates and Romana practicing Pilates on the reformer and tower. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL-Q9ZbnYU0

The 5 Series

The Challenging 5 series is a wonderful way to build genuine strength in your core. Practice elongating your limbs while maintaing stability through the torso. If you do these exercises correctly (listen to my cuing) you will not only feel it in the abdonminals, but also a wonderful sense of lengthening and strengthening through the legs. Breath and stay relaxed through the neck and shoulders. Rock it!

What is Move and Flow Fitness?

Move and Flow Fitness is a unique fitness program that incorporates cardio dance, Pilates, yoga, ballet, the stability ball, light hand weights and band resistance training. It is a playful workout that develops muscle, helps improve the metabolism, improves flexibility, posture, balance and strength. A strong and graceful workout that gives an over-all sensation of feeling fabulous!

The MOVE portion of my fitness is dance cardio. A fun cardio workout that pulls from all dance forms - ballet to burlesque!
Dance fitness is an effective way to burn calories (nearly 500 in an hour!), improve coordination and balance, and also strengthen the weight bearing bones (femur, tibia, and fibula) thus helping to prevent or slow down the loss of bone mass.
The FLOW portion of my fitness progream consists of fluid strength building exercises
inspired from the dance world and steeped with the principles and methods of Pilates and yoga. These exercises are effective in strength building and core stabilizing.
I call them FLOW exercises because, 1) you flow into them working compound muscles and developing strength in the accessory muscles 2) the muscle tone that results is "flowing", lean and strong, not bulky. (The FLOW portion of fitness is what I concentrate on predominately in private training sessions).

Whether you are taking just one Saturday morning class, an entire month long boot-camp, or working with me one-on-one, you will definitely notice the difference in your body as well as in your attitude. You will feel stronger, sexier, more balanced and beautiful.
Leaders in the dance and the fitness world who have inspired my approach to fitness are: Joseph Pilates, Martha Graham, Eric Franklin, Tracy Anderson and Bob Fosse.
